Jacobean architecture and furniture are of the late English Gothic period with a large mixture of Italian form. The name comes from a writer of this period by the name of James Jacob or Jacobus. The Jacobean style varied little in structure and type from the Tudor style period that preceded it. In the English Colonies of North America the Jacobean style remained current through the 17th century. The Oxford Square Collection takes the best of this period with richly curled posts, turned spindles, and gothic arches, accenting a variety of tables and cabinets. To add to this aged styling are a variety of shapes and forms. All these special pieces are made of white ash accented with figured ash swirl veneers. The finish, tavern, is a deep malt color, wool waxed with rigorous distressing to reflect the true nature of these antique forms.
